Urgent Call to Action for Ohio Residents: Protect Your Public Libraries

As a company committed to strengthening civic culture and supporting public institutions, we occasionally amplify messages with significant civic relevance or urgent implications for the communities we serve. To that end, we’re calling on fellow constituents in the state of Ohio to contact your representatives in support of restoring funding for Ohio’s public libraries, for which a proposed change to the state budget would result in significant losses.

Public libraries are among the most trusted and accessible civic institutions that exist. They provide free access to information, technology, education, and community resources upon which Ohioans rely every day. If you would like to contact your representative, we’ve provided a sample letter below that you can use or adapt, along with this link to help you identify and contact your state representatives directly.

Dear Representative [Name],

I write today to request that you support the full restoration of Ohio's Public Library Fund. Strong public libraries have always played an essential role in empowering communities by providing access to knowledge, technology, culture, and connection. Libraries drive creativity and invite people of all ages to explore their ideas in a safe environment with expert guides. Libraries are built by and for the people to ensure that we pass on the lessons we have learned to future generations, and they are a vital public resource that we cannot afford to lose.

Ensuring the adequate funding of public learning institutions should be a point of pride for our state, one that reflects our commitment to an improved future for our citizens and to the democratic values that our communities have long held dear. Our elected officials are tasked with making sure that each public dollar spent contributes to the meaningful social, cultural, intellectual, and economic advancement of our citizens. Toward those ends, there are few better investments than that of robust funding for our public libraries.

I respectfully request your support in fully restoring the Public Library Fund. Your leadership on this matter would provide immediate benefit to our communities at a time when trust in public institutions is eroding. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
